In 2018, The governor of the Golden State, Jerry Brown, signed a bill into law making June the official, designated, and approved Pride Month for the State of California. Now, Gay and Lesbian Pride events and parades are planned annually in the month of June all over the country as well as internationally. The largest gay Pride parade in the world (over 3.5 million attendees) will celebrate its 25th anniversary when the So Paulo LGBT Pride Parade takes over the. The Stonewall Inn was declared a national historical landmark in March 2000, cited as the birthplace of the modern gay and lesbian civil rights movement. The event has been commemorated by annual celebrations in New York and Los Angeles in June, a tradition starting with marches on June 28,1970 marking the anniversary of the Stonewall Rebellion. This uprising was the catalyst for the modern political movement for gay and lesbian liberation, calling for gay pride and action to secure their basic civil rights. Oxford Pride is an important event that celebrates the LGBTIQ+ community, brings people together. These protests came to be known as the Stonewall Rebellion. Oxford: Oxford Pride takes place on Saturday the 4th June 2022. All trans people and their allies are welcome. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own food to the event in Martin Road Park in Ferndale. Word spread quickly about the confrontation and large, outraged crowds gathered on ensuing nights to protest the mistreatment historically inflicted on the gay community. 2022 marks the 23rd anniversary of this event. On that night, lesbians and gay men spontaneously fought back against police harassment for the first time. Patrons were physically forced out of their gathering places, sometimes beaten, and often arrested with no just cause. New York Beverage Control Board agents and NYC police officers raided the bar to enforce an alcohol control law that was seldom enforced anywhere else in the city. On the evening of June 27th, the usual crowd gathered at the Stonewall Inn, a popular gay bar in New York City's Greenwich Village. The origins of Gay and Lesbian Pride month can be traced back to a turbulent weekend in New York City in June of 1969. This month is dedicated to appreciating the contributions and significance of the GLBT community, and celebrates diversity and civil liberties and rights for all. In the spirit of honoring equality and freedom, the president said, "I encourage all Americans to observe this month with appropriate programs, ceremonies, and activities that celebrate our diversity, and to remember throughout the year the gay and lesbian Americans whose many and varied contributions have enriched our national life." On JPresident Clinton issued a proclamation designating June as Gay and Lesbian Pride Month. The celebrations usually begin every year on 28 June. Madrid is one of the best LGBTQ+ destinations in the world and its annual Pride is a must attend for thousands of people from across the world. On July 2nd, we want to make a powerful statement as we march towards progress calling on the UK Govt to ban conversion therapy for all LGBT+ people, reform the Gender Recognition, provide equal protection for LGBT+ communities against hate crime, by making homophobic, biphobic or transphobic hate crime an aggravated crime in line with racial and religious hate crimes, end its hostile enviornment toward minority migrants, establish a national AIDS memorial that truly honours and remembers those who we have lost and the impact of HIV and Aids and to take a leading role in tackling the violence and discrimination against LGBT+ people around the globe.Until fairly recently, gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender (GLBT) individuals did not have a specific month during which to celebrate and commemorate Pride Days in the United States. In 2022, the festivities will take place from 1 to 10 July, with the Madrid Pride Parade to be held on 9 July (one week later than usual).
Participation in the parade gives the opportunity for expression of celebration, joy and triumph but also the voice to rightly express the continued fight for those injustices and inequalities that exist amongst us. As we celebrate and look forward to the next 50 years, we’ll recognise the challenges still faced by our community nationally and globally. The campaign for 2022 will commemorate the past 50 years and our evolution as a movement acknowledging those torch bearers who have come before us and their achievements. This year is a significant year for the Pride movement and the LGBT+ community as we commemorate 50 Years since the first Pride took place in the United Kingdom. The Pride in London parade will be held on Saturday 2nd July 2022.
